Play for Wales – issue 67

Spring | Summer 2026

This issue of our magazine explores play policy and celebrates playful practice, with examples from across the country and beyond.

Across Wales, we have long recognised, championed and celebrated children’s right to play through policy, legislation and good practice. Throughout this issue, we showcase how policy, partnerships and practice are helping to champion children’s right to play and create more opportunities for children to play.

In this issue we focus on:

  • Championing children’s right to play: highlights from International Day of Play and Playday collaborations and activity in Wales and internationally.
  • Continuing the commitment to play policy: a feature interview with Sioned Williams MS, the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Equality, and the Welsh Government’s reflections on the progress for play through its Ministerial Review of Play.
  • Enhancing play in schools: inspiring examples from local authorities across Wales, a summary of how national education policy supports play, and a feature on how playful changes have made a positive impact at a primary school.
  • Playworking and playworkers: celebrating the first Chwarae o Safon recipients, finding out more about Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs new Pathway to Playwork training programme, a review of this year’s Playworkers Forum and a spotlight on interview with a Play Sufficiency Lead.
