Clean Cities’ Europe-wide Streets for Kids campaign is calling for safe and accessible streets for everyone, in particular around schools.
Over the past four years more than 380,000 peoplehave joined the campaign activity, resulting in over 300 school streets being implemented and another 300 planned. Now in its fifth year, Streets for Kids is asking parents, teachers and children in cities across Europe to call for more School Streets.
Days of action will be taking place across the UK and the rest of Europe throughout May. More information about organising an event – and resources to support – are available on the Clean Cities website.
School Streets are accessible spaces around schools where walking and cycling is prioritised over motor vehicles at drop-off and pick-up times. School Streets provide immediate health benefits for children, through the reduction of air pollution in the vicinity of the school, where they spend a big part of their day, and encouraging families to change from driving to walking, cycling or public transport.
