Play Wales is calling for the next government in Wales to continue its longstanding commitment to prioritising play. We ask all political parties to carry on supporting the implementation of the statutory Play Sufficiency Duty.

We urge the government to make cross-policy commitments to ensure that children’s opportunities to play increase and improve. Prioritising children’s play brings proven benefits to children, families and communities, both immediately and in the long term.

In our manifesto – Championing children’s play – we make 15 calls, focusing on:

  • strategic leadership
  • play in schools
  • play in times of uncertainty
  • playful neighbourhoods.

The forthcoming Senedd election, on 7 May 2026, will provide us all with an opportunity to highlight our asks for children’s play in Wales. Our manifesto can be useful to help form questions to ask politicians as they begin their local campaigning in the lead up to the election.

We have shared our manifesto with the major political parties in Wales and hope they have found it useful when developing their own priorities and agenda for Wales. It has the potential to influence the actions of the next government of Wales.
