Outdoor Play Canada’s newly launched position statement shows how active outdoor play supports health, inclusion and environmental sustainability for all ages and communities. The 2025 Position Statement on Active Outdoor Play, published ten years since the release of the original statement, extends on the 2015 version by expanding its reach globally, broadening its content and emphasising inclusivity across all ages.
Since 2015, research, policies and programmes supporting outdoor play have grown worldwide. The latest statement celebrates this progress and outlines a shared path forward. It explores the relationships between outdoor play and:
- community and human connection
- nature, climate change and the environment
- health and wellbeing
- education and learning
- human rights and policy.
The statement has been developed over three-year, involving an international group of over 130 researchers, thought leaders, practitioners, policymakers, and other active outdoor play-relevant individuals and groups.
