Explore Play Wales

We have published a new issue of Play for Wales, which explores the theme of playing in the early years. It highlights how early interactions, experiences and environments can lay the foundation for children to make the most of their opportunities to play as they grow and develop.

The Playing in the early years issue includes:

  • Unlocking the power of play in the first 1000 days – Julie Powell explores the important role of play during the earliest days of a child’s life
  • Anna Westall shares good practice examples of consulting with and listening to our youngest children
  • Dr. Nalda Wainwright discusses the science relating to the importance of the early years
  • Developing a neighbourhood response to the Play Sufficiency Duty – an overview of the research study carried out by Wendy Russell, Donna Gaywood, Mike Barclay and Ben Tawil
  • Balancing play and playful learning – key early years education policies in Wales
  • An exploration of how we can support multi-age play, in the Playing: the culture of childhood article
  • An interview with Sarah Sharpe, a registered childminder
  • ‘Slow down drivers so we can play’ – how a group of children are striving to make their neighbourhood a safe and play-friendly place
  • An update report on Play Wales projects and events throughout Wales.
