Explore Play Wales
The United Nations has adopted an annual International Day of Play on 11 June each year. The day recognises children’s right to play and its importance for their wellbeing.
Play Wales is calling on schools to celebrate the day by protecting playtime. We are asking schools to give all children additional time to play – for example, by making the lunch break longer or providing an extra playtime.
During the school day, children should be given plenty of time and space to play freely with their friends. Children say that playtimes are an important part of the school day. The International Day of Play is a good opportunity for schools to protect playtime and think about how more time for play can be integrated into every day.
To support schools to give children more time to play on International Day of Play, we have developed a list of top tips. The list is full of practical and easy ideas for marking the day.
