Researchers examining how young children’s rights can be embedded into teaching practice have secured a funding boost of £700,000 by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Education Research Programme.
The three-year project involving Welsh universities explores the challenges of translating policy intention into education practice. Its focus is on the participation rights of young children, how these are enacted in the classroom, and how they can be applied consistently for all children.
The project adopts creative methods of working collaboratively with children and their educators. It is being carried out by representatives of Swansea and Cardiff Metropolitan Universities, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, UWE Bristol and pedagogical consultant and artist-educator Debi Keyte-Hartland.
