The Play Sufficiency Duty and the role of playworkers

Authors: Ben Tawil and Mike Barclay
Date: November 2024

This information sheet is aimed at playworkers. It is also useful for anyone with responsibility for providing children with opportunities to play or those with an interest in play sufficiency in Wales.

It offers an introduction to the Welsh Government’s Play Sufficiency Duty. It also explores the playwork profession’s roles in helping to ensure children are given enough opportunities to play.

Playworkers support play sufficiency. They contribute – directly and indirectly – to the provision of good opportunities for all children to play. This information sheet provides an overview of the range of work undertaken within the playwork profession.
