The Welsh Government Minister for Mental Health and Early Years, Jane Bryant MS has published a review and refresh of the 10-year childcare, play and early years workforce plan.

The report outlines the Welsh Government’s progress in addressing three key themes across the childcare, play and early years sectors, since the plan’s publication in 2017. It also assesses whether the themes are still relevant, and what actions will be taken forward through to 2027. The themes are:

  • Attracting high-quality new recruits
  • Raising standards and skills
  • Investing in building capacity and capability.

The progress report highlights the work carried out with Play Wales and PETC Wales to develop key playwork qualifications – such as the Level 2 Award in Playwork Practice (L2APP), and the Level 3 Playwork: Principles into Practice (P3).

It also sets out how the Welsh Government will take action to continue to develop the playwork worforce. This includes establishing a Childcare and Playwork Social Partnership Fair Work Forum to consider key issues – such as recruitment, retention, continuing professional development.
