Registration of the childcare, play and early years workforce in Wales – independent review

An independent review of the childcare, play and early years (CPEY) workforce in Wales was published on behalf of Welsh Government in July.

The main aim of the review was to provide an independent view to inform Welsh Government actions and next steps for the professional registration of the CPEY workforce.

There are three key themes to the findings:

1. defining the workforce and who should be included in a registry
2. practical elements of a registry
3. qualifications and continuous professional development.

The review was carried out by Government Social Research (GSR). It sets out recommendations in three stages for the Welsh Government to consider in taking forward the professional registration of the CPEY workforce in Wales.
