Explore Play Wales
The Welsh Government has published the refreshed play sufficiency statutory guidance, Wales – a play friendly country.
This guidance must be used by all local authorities in Wales when ensuring enough play opportunities for children.
The refreshed guidance does not amend any core legal requirements on local authorities as part of their play sufficiency duties. It does, however, provide updated legislative and policy information to reflect the wide cross-policy nature of the Play Sufficiency Assessment process.
The publication is the final part of the update of all Play Sufficiency Assessment guidance – including the assessment toolkit and related tools and templates – in line with Key recommendation 2 from the Ministerial Review of Play, to ensure that Welsh Government policy instruments include measures to support children’s ability to make the most of opportunities to play.
As a next step, the Welsh Government is in the process of developing a child friendly version and animation of the Ministerial Review of Play Progress Report.
