The Welsh Government has published updated guidance designed to support local authorities in their duties to provide, design and manage accommodation for Gypsies and Travellers in their area. This is an important part of the ongoing implementation of the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan and wider commitments to equality, inclusion and community cohesion.
The new updated guidance has been informed in consultation with Gypsy and Traveller communities and other key stakeholders including local authorities, third sector organisations, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, and policy officials, ensuring that lived experience and practical delivery considerations are reflected throughout the guidance.
The new guidance includes signposting to Play Wales’ Developing play and early years provision in Gypsy and Traveller sites toolkit. The toolkit is designed to provide clear and concise information to help create opportunities for play for children on Gypsy and Traveller sites. It provides practical, step-by-step tools and templates for undertaking work related to removing the barriers to accessing opportunities to play faced by Gypsy and Traveller children.
