Explore Play Wales
The new Meithrin Natur programme from the National Lottery Community Fund aims to improve children and their caregivers’ health and wellbeing in Wales. The funder is looking for projects that help children and their caregivers to connect with the natural environment.
This includes giving children and their caregivers positive and meaningful experiences with nature and outdoor spaces, such as parks, rivers or forests. Children and caregivers include: babies and children under five years old, expecting parents, as well as family, foster carers, paid or unpaid carers.
The National Lottery Community Fund wants organisations to bring together their knowledge from across different sectors. Applicants must work in a partnership to apply for this funding. The partnership must have experience of working with children under the age of five and their caregivers, and in the natural environment. The funder also wants organisations to bring together their knowledge from across different sectors, for example those working in: early years, nature and the environment, and health and wellbeing.
Applicants must show us how the partnership will:
- run activities that help children and their caregivers connect with the natural environment, and improve their health and wellbeing
- involve children and their caregivers in the project design and delivery
- improve or develop inclusive and accessible natural spaces
- support people that experience poverty, discrimination or disadvantage
- evaluate the project.
The programme is offering up to £25,000 for development funding and up to £2 million, for up to six years, to deliver the project.
Closing date for applications: 12:00pm, 1 December 2025
