The UK Government’s office for Product Safety Guidelines is calling for evidence on UK toy safety, a new EU regulation and key considerations as it reviews and potentially updates Great Britain’s regulations. The call for evidence is open to all interested parties, including members of the public, consumers, and consumer and child safety organisations.
In 2023, the EU proposed the new Toy Safety Regulation (EU) 2025/2509. This regulation entered into force on 1 January 2026 and will fully apply from 1 August 2030, at which point the existing Toys Directive will be repealed.
The UK Government is considering the EU’s reforms and any issues associated with the continued recognition of the new EU product requirements for toys, and the implementation of a similar approach in Great Britain. It is also reviewing areas such as chemical safety, digital product passports, online marketplace obligations, and emerging risks associated with AI-enabled toys.
