Explore Play Wales
To celebrate Careers Week (3 – 8 March 2025), we are shining a spotlight on the playwork profession by sharing information about what it takes to become a playworker and how to further your knowledge and training in playwork.
What does it take to be a playworker?
Playwork can be described as the art of working with playing children. It is a recognised occupation with a set of professional standards, training, qualifications and careers. Understanding how to support children’s play is the most important task for a playworker and they need a set of specific qualities, including a belief that children have the right to play.
Play is hugely beneficial, helping children challenge themselves, keep fit and make sense of difficult things. Most of all, playing is fun! If you’re thinking about a career in playwork, or just want to find out more, discover what it means to be a playworker in this short video.
