This is a National CPD session organised by the National Education Union on the importance and value of play in young children’s development. It focuses on how we can help to provide the optimal conditions to allow children’s play to flourish.

This session will be delivered by Pete Moorhouse, an early years creative consultant, researcher, author, and artist educator based in the UK.

From this course you will:

  • discover what counts as ‘play’ and ‘playful activities’
  • learn how play supports children’s creative expression
  • learn how freely chosen play can support all areas of learning
  • explore the adult role in supporting playful learning
  • distinguish between free play, guided play, and structured didactic teaching

This session is aimed at those who work in the early years sector.
