Using fun and engaging activities this course will set out the theoretical and legislative framework for young people’s participation in Wales. It will also include techniques and practical tools that can be used directly with young people on an individual and group basis to include them as widely as possible in decisions that affect their everyday lives, including extending their involvement in organisational decision making.

Learning objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of children and young peoples’ rights in the Welsh context
  • Explore what ‘participation’ means for young people of different ages
  • An understanding of the legislation and guidance supporting young person centred work
  • Gain skills for working with young people
  • Examine barriers to participation and possible solutions
  • Understand how to set up and run a youth forum
  • Develop an individual action plan for you to take this work forward.
