The First Claim … a framework for playwork quality assessment

Author: Bob Hughes
Date: 2001

This book aims to enable playworkers and any other adults with an interest in children’s play, to analyse play environments. It gives a framework that can be used to assess, through observation and reflection, the quality of what is provided and how it is experienced.

The book allows readers to consider:

  • what children are doing
  • the developmental and therapeutic roles involved in playing
  • the roles and functions of the playworker (or other adults)
  • the most appropriate ways of intervening in the play process
  • playwork’s language and concepts.

The First Claim … is intended to complement other quality assurance procedures.
We have a limited quantity of printed copies available to buy for £15.00 (including postage in the UK). If you would like a copy, please get in touch.
