The Welsh Government has published a refresh of the National Minimum Standards (NMS) for Regulated Childcare (for children up to 12 years of age). The changes reflect feedback received from a consultation that took place in 2022. This in turn responds to a review of the standards and its recommendations, which was originally published in 2019.
Important updates to the standards include clarification of the appropriate level of safeguarding training for different roles in the sector. The update also makes changes to the paediatric first aid training requirements for registered childcare settings.
In a written statement, the Deputy Minister for Social Services, Julie Morgan MS said:
‘We have explained the changes we have made, how these can be implemented and the transitional arrangements we have put in place to help mitigate the impact of the additional requirements on providers.’
