The disability equality charity, Scope has published a map showing the playgrounds in Wales and England its supporters say are accessible for disabled children.
The Playground Accessibility Map is the result of work carried out by the charity in summer 2023. Scope campaigners investigated more than 1,000 local playgrounds to find out how accessible and inclusive they were for children with disabilities such as autism, learning disabilities and physical impairments.
The accompanying report provides an analysis of the feedback collected by those who visited the playgrounds. It reveals only one in ten playgrounds were deemed to have many features that allow disabled children to get in, move around and play.
The map and report are part of Scope’s Let’s Play Fair campaign calling on local authorities to develop universally inclusive playgrounds.
