Starlight Children’s Foundation has published a report into the current ‘state of play’ in children’s healthcare settings across the UK, to coincide with Play in Hospital Week (10 to 14 October) 2022.
The Play in Hospital Report 2022 highlights the importance of children’s play for their mental health and wellbeing while in hospital. It explores how everyday play opportunities in healthcare can reduce the anxiety and fear often experienced by children in hospital.
The report urgently calls on UK healthcare settings to make a bigger priority of children’s play as the NHS adjusts to the new normal and, in the longer-term, for health play specialists to be seen as an integral part of the healthcare workforce.
