Outdoor Learning and Play (OPAL) has launched its Plan for Play campaign to boost children’s mental and physical health by encouraging quality outdoor playtime in schools.
The campaign calls on schools to produce a plan showing how they will make sure every child has at least one hour’s outstanding outdoor play every school day.
OPAL is also calling for guidance for schools on what to do and how to do it, and on OFSTED to ensure it is happening.
The basis for the campaign is a research report, The Case for Play in Schools: A review of the literature, edited by Wendy Russell and published in October 2021. It explores the value of diverse playtime experiences for children’s development.
