Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs has published a report on the results from its National Club Survey (2023) of out of school childcare clubs in Wales.
The results (based on responses by 298 clubs) highlight the benefits of out of school childcare clubs – such as the support provided for children with additional needs, and the commitment of clubs to support the Welsh language and anti-racist practice. The findings also illustrate the challenges within the sector, including recruitment and retention, workforce development, staff shortages and rising costs.
The report puts forward six recommendations to improve the sustainability of out of school childcare clubs, including tailored business support and funded qualification and training opportunities.
Play Wales says:
‘We are pleased to see the results of the National Club Survey (2023). The recommendations within the report link well with the Ministerial Review of Play, particularly in relation to continued funding for workforce development and promotion of the value of play and playwork. We look forward to our continued partnership with Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs to work towards these aims.’
