An increase in notifications of scarlet fever and invasive streptococcal disease has been highlighted in a letter to all childcare and primary education settings by Public Health Wales.
The letter reports that there were 1,512 notifications of scarlet fever in the first 47 weeks of 2022, compared to 948 in the same period in 2019. It says the infection mostly affects children under 10 years old.
The letter gives information about symptoms of scarlet fever and complications of streptococcal infection and offers recommended actions for settings.
