The Welsh Government is consulting on changes in legislation for health and social care services that include proposals affecting childcare and playworkers.

Whilst the primary focus is on proposed legislation to eliminate profit from the care of children looked after, other areas include extending the definition of ‘social care worker’ to include childcare and playworkers.

Chapter six of the consultation proposes amending the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 (‘the 2016 Act’) to enable – through the making of regulations – all childcare and playworkers, working in the childcare sector, to be treated as social care workers. The aim is to provide a clear mandate for Social Care Wales to carry out its functions in relation to the childcare and play workforce.

Closing date for responding to the consultation: 7 November 2022
