We have published a new information sheet exploring what is unique about playwork and the role of the playworker.
The Playwork – what’s so special information sheet is aimed at anyone with an interest in learning more about playwork and the role of the playworker. It describes how playworkers facilitate children’s play and explains how playwork relates to the Playwork Principles, particularly Principles 3 to 8.
Originally published in 2016, the information sheet explores the impact that playworkers and their involvement have on children’s play and play spaces. The new version describes how the United Nations General Comment no. 17 on Article 31 sets out adults’ important role in giving children the support they need to realise their right to play.
The information sheet also includes a checklist for facilitating a play space, as well as signposting to further reading about playwork and the Playwork Principles.
